Meet Christina...

Name: Christina
Company: Bertelsmann, Inc.
Location: New York, NY

In my spare time I like to play golf, tennis (I love to ski but only go once per year), draw/paint and read (anything is good from the Times, to Cat’s Cradle to Harry Potter.)

I love to travel! My favorite places of travel thus far are Greece and Paris.

Film has always been a passion. I grew up watching films like Back to the Future and Duck Soup. Now I’ve continued this love with film classes at school and exploring films from different eras and countries.

I find history fascinating, especially WWII and then current affairs.

A day without music is incomplete.

Describe your educational background. Where did you study, what degrees did you receive?
I’m a rising junior at Washington University in St. Louis. I’m majoring in Political Science and minoring in Film Studies and Studio Art.

Describe your career history. What have been your professional experiences prior to your current position?
Last summer I worked as a design intern at a clothing company called Tibi. In addition, I’ve started two small businesses. In high school I started a custom clothes company and am currently working on an iPod consulting business.

What are your current roles and responsibilities?
Recently, I’ve worked on an executive summary of a report dealing with Bertelsmann’s career website and am also working on a report on other media company career sites.

Describe a typical day at your job:
I arrive at work around 9 a.m. Check emails, the Times, and my social networks for messages. The morning moves pretty fast and soon I’m grabbing lunch with the staff. This is always a highlight since our cafeteria has a great selection, and is very spacious! Eating outside at nearby Central Park is always fun too :)

What attracted you to your company and position? What is your favorite thing about your job?
I’m interested in marketing and entertainment. Bertelsmann, known as a media corporation, was offering an HR/marketing internship and thus had the mix I was looking for. My favorite thing has to be the people I work with. My co-workers come from diverse backgrounds and have lots of energy and music to share!

What has been your most memorable moment (so far) in your job?
That would have to be eating lunch with my fellow interns at Central Park on my first Friday. It was a gorgeous day outside, the park was active and I started to feel apart of the place I work.

It’s also fun having competing music being played at the end of the day!

If you could meet anyone from history, living or dead, who would it be?
    Meeting Shakespeare would be fascinating.

    If I were a cartoon character, I would be…
Road Runner because I’ve got a need for speed ;)

What qualities do you feel are necessary to be a successful employee at your company?
I think being creative and a team player are desirable qualities.

Have you had the opportunity to travel as part of your job? Not yet.

Do you feel you have a good understanding of Bertelsmann and its corporate culture?
Everyday I add more to my understanding. Bertelsmann is all about the entrepreneurial spirit and creativity.

My favorite book, movie, and artist are…
    Book: Great Gatsby
Movie: new favorites are Vicky Cristina Barcelona and the English Patient
Artist: few faves include Neil Young, Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2, Fleetwood Mac and Simon & Garfunkel
