Describe your educational background. Where did / do you study, what degrees did / will you receive?
I finished my Bachelor degree at the University of Muenster in June 2012 and I will probably be starting a Master program in October 2013.  

Describe your career history. What have been your professional experiences?
Before I started my studies I worked as an assistant to the project manager of the Innovation Centre of School and Technology, a start-up that aims to increase the interest from children in the MINT-area. I always wanted to spend some time abroad during my studies to see how business life works outside Germany and to expand my personal horizon. Therefore, after having done an internship in the field of wholesale management at Peek & Cloppenburg during my 2nd semester, I started an internship at Evonik Degussa Australia in November 2010 where I assisted the Marketing Manager e. g. by doing analysis of sales, margins and product portfolio performance. After having finished my studies I felt like I still did not know exactly which business field I would like to focus on during my future career. I wanted to look into different fields within the business world before starting a certain Master program. That is why I started an internship program called GapYear in September 2012. From September to November 2012 I interned at arvato within the field of Business development followed by a 4-month internship at Henkel. Currently, I am working for Allianz Deutschland.

What attracted you to Bertelsmann and your internships? What is / was your favorite aspect about your job?
I first heard from arvato Bertelsmann during my studies as a member of the Circle of Excellence in Marketing, a student initiative arvato AG has been cooperating with for several years. I was attracted by the complexity and the rich diversity of arvato’s services and wanted to gain a deeper understanding of its decentralized and diversified business models. The internship within the Business Development department was a great chance to learn about arvato’s huge range of service solutions through working with interesting, inspiring colleagues on various projects.

What has been your most challenging / rewarding / exciting task or project thus far?
During my time at the Innovation Centre of School and Technology our team had to organize the regional finals of the Formula 1 in Schools challenge (an international, multi-disciplinary challenge for students aged 9 to 19). The responsible colleague got sick and I had to take over responsibility without having any ideas of how to organize an event for around 50 students. I had to find sponsors, put together a jury, and to organize the day. Being solely responsible for the planning and execution of this one-day event and seeing how everything worked out well in the end was a great experience for me

What qualities do you feel are necessary to be a successful employee at Bertelsmann?
I believe Bertelsmann in general and arvato in specific are seeking highly motivated entrepreneurs who are open-minded, and curious with innovative minds. Be communicative, build a network, share your ideas and you will find great opportunities. 

What was / is a typical day during your internship like?
As an intern within the Business Development department I had various project to work on parallel together with two colleagues from my department. Our supervisor briefed us about the project scope and expected us to come up with ideas and solutions for the specific project. What I usually did in the morning was checking my mails, organizing meetings and updating the status of the project. From time to time we had feedback meetings with the supervisor to discuss the next steps and to share our ideas and give certain decision options. 

What are your professional goals? Any others ;-) ?
My personal objective is to find a job that I am passionate about and that fulfills me personally. During my internships I also figured that it is important to me to feel comfortable in the working environment and the corporate culture of a company.
