Describe your educational background. Where did/do you study, what degrees did/will you receive?
I received my B.A. in Corporate Management & Economics from Zeppelin University, Friedrichshafen in March 2016. Zeppelin Uni has a very distinct approach, focusing on interdisciplinary studies. In my courses, students from culture- and communication, politics and administration, Sociology and from my field would come together to discuss specific theories and phenomena from many different angles. My focus was on Innovation Management, Information Systems and Finance.
In September 2017, I plan to continue my education with a Master’s degree in Management, Information Systems and Digital Innovation.

Describe your career history. What have been your professional experiences?
My career path has taken me to many different companies, each with their own challenges and ecosystems. As a trainee for a footwear sourcing company, I learned how to process large amounts of information quickly and how to understand the underlying principles of an organization. Confronted with the challenge to develop and implement a new idea management system for an SME, I planned, tested and executed my approach independently and under time pressure. As an intern for an internet Start-Up, I researched and drafted a business plan for a new product, which is being sold today.

What attracted you to Bertelsmann and your internships? What is/was your favorite aspect about your job?
Being from eastern Westphalia, Bertelsmann has always been on my radar. When looking for opportunities to work in a field dramatically affected by the digital transformation, we met again. Working in Digital Development & Partnerships turned out to be exactly the challenge I was looking for. Especially since I get the chance to work across the diversified portfolio of Bertelsmann.

What has been your most challenging/rewarding/exciting task or project thus far?
Analyzing partnership opportunities within the early-stage Start Up universe for one of Bertelsmann’s divisions. I got to own the project, while working closely with the specific division towards the project’s success.

What qualities do you feel are necessary to be a successful employee at Bertelsmann?
Actively seeking chances for transforming the business while keeping an entrepreneurship-shaped mind definitely is a key factor. Openness towards different ideas of tackling challenges helps as well.

What was/is a typical day during your internship like?
Although no two days are alike, thorough research of the VC/Start-up ecosystem is usually how I start my day. Reading up on the news about funding, reports and developments at major players helps to keep up to speed on digital opportunities arising for Bertelsmann. Also, we have a very distinct rule in our office: At least one joke before ten o’clock.

What are your professional goals? Any others?
I aim to be at the forefront of change and transformation. Together with a great team, my goal is to lead and to take over responsibility. I want to make my work count towards a higher goal.
