Describe your educational background. Where did/do you study, what degrees did/will you receive?
In 2014 I completed both, the regular German Abitur as well as the IB (International Baccalaureate) in Aachen. During my school education I gained international experience through a short exchange to Arlington (Virginia, USA). After school I ultimately started my bachelor’s degree at WHU and spent my exchange semester in Indianapolis (Indiana, USA) at Butler University.

Describe your career history. What have been your professional experiences?

I gained most of my professional experiences through internships. Already prior to university I completed internships in politics (parliament NRW) and the hotel industry. During my studies I successfully completed an internship at a German export and import company in Hong Kong. Both internships, in the United Arab Emirates and well as in Hong Kong, increased my interest in different countries and the respective cultures. This summer I interned at arvato Bertelsmann at the Mobility team in Berlin. In addition to my internships I gained professional experience at a local video store. For several years I was able to broaden my knowledge about movies and actors - the film industry in general. Besides, I was a call center agent for MAIX market research in Aachen where I learned a lot about market research, sales, and communication in general.

What attracted you to Bertelsmann and your internships? What is/was your favorite aspect about your job?
The two things that attracted me to Bertelsmann and my internships are my interest in the media industry as well as in politics. The internship at the mobility team in Berlin particularly focused on the last-mentioned. As business development interns our goal was to generate combined arvato solutions for the tolling industry. Since the tolling market is closely connected to politics, the internship addressed my area of interest.

What has been your most challenging/rewarding/exciting task or project thus far?

Despite the tolling projects our team focused on business development in the entire mobility sector. In this context the interns organized an innovation project which included the setup of a business plan for the parking sector. In the end we were even able to generate our own app for a particular solution. Since we could participate and shape the project from the beginning we worked entrepreneurial and could learn a lot from our supervisors who constantly gave us high-quality feedback.

What qualities do you feel are necessary to be a successful employee at Bertelsmann?
I personally believe that a successful employee at Bertelsmann needs to be creative, needs to be in touch with the latest trends, and needs to think globally. Since Bertelsmann today experiences great changes in each division, a global perspective as well as creative and innovative employees are more important than ever.

What was/is a typical day during your internship like?

A typical day during my internship began with the administrative tasks of checking e-mails and reading the latest news in the mobility market. The rest of the day was filled with group meetings from different projects. In-between the meetings the individual tasks were completed, including for instance the creation of storyboards and market research. Since the mobility team office was located in the BMG headquarter we were able to have lunch with people from different divisions. This way we could learn a lot from “Bertelsmänner- and frauen” who are doing completely different work.

What are your professional goals? Any others?

After completing my Bertelsmann internship my interest in the media industry increased. At the moment my ultimate goal is to intern at a company in the film or music industry or a respective talent agency. During my gap year in 2017/2018 I would love to complete several internships in the mentioned field. Since I highly value Bertelsmann as a multi media company I would like to keep an eye open for more internships within the Bertelsmann family.
