Internship with Penguin Random House Barcelona

After studying Human Resources and International Management for a semester at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, I held an internship in the Human Resources department at Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial (PRHGE) lasting from December 2015 to February 2016. From the first day I got to know my friendly interdisciplinary HR-team, and my mentor explained the structure of PRHGE to me as well as my tasks for the following weeks. I worked on the evaluation of the health management program and gained more experience in diversity management.

The working atmosphere was great because the team valued creativity. I was responsible for own projects, and I could talk directly to local potential partners. Furthermore, I received regular feedback, so that I developed my practical knowledge about HR Management. Overall, I enjoyed working there because of my team and the atmosphere of the editorial in general: all of them were helpful and open-minded, so that I felt part of the team. Additionally, it was an amazing opportunity for me to improve my Spanish because I made all presentations in Spanish.

I would recommend an internship at PRHGE not only because of the working atmosphere, but also because of the on-boarding process of the internship students: in the first week there was a meeting with all of us, which led to an interdisciplinary exchange of ideas and friendships. All in all, I am very thankful that I got this opportunity as part of the Student Challenge Program and I would recommend it to every student who likes to think “outside of the box” and to be creative by producing synergies.

Best regards,
Alexandra
